MATCH ANALYSIS: REAL SOCIEDAD v REAL ZARAGOZA (10/02/02) - GOAL DE PEDRO
 

1) The Real player makes a dummy run over the ball and his team mate plays the ball in behind the wall. The defenders on the side of the wall anticipate a shot or short pass to the right.

2/ Meanwhile, De Pedro breaks off the wall and makes a run into the space behind the wall. He is played onside by the other defenders.

3/ He controls the pass and drives the ball home.

Conclusions:

- A well worked set-piece variation with clever off the ball movement as well as the ability to fool defences. Shows importance of rehearsing set-pieces and trying out different variations.

- The defence is very (perhaps too) easily caught out and defenders must always be on their guard against different variations in set-piece play.
